PIG KEEPING COURSES

Find out about both the paperwork and the practical side of keeping pigs

Whether you are wanting to keep a couple of pigs as pets, rear some tasty pork for your own table or start a small breeding herd, we can share our experiences and knowledge with you, answer your questions and give you plenty of time to spend with pigs of various ages. 

There are two courses available:

1. A Beginner's Guide to Pig Keeping

2. Introduction to Pig Breeding

OPTION 1: BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO PIG KEEPING

Our "Beginner's Guide to Pig Keeping" course will provide guidance on the administration and paperwork side of things as well as the much more practical day-to-day issues around caring for your pigs.


We will cover feeding, housing, fencing, land management, common health issues and how to avoid, spot and treat these, guidance about cutting lists and rearing for the table if that is what you are interested in, as well as answering any other questions you might have.


You will get the chance to spend time with our pigs, feeding them and learning how to condition-score and assess their weight and health.

Courses are run upon request, so please contact us if you are interested.

OPTION 2: INTRODUCTION TO PIG BREEDING

Our "Introduction to Pig Breeding" course is for those who have kept pigs before, but are keen to find out more about how to get into breeding them. 

We will cover heat cycles, heat detection, boar management, Artificial Insemination, pregnancy detection, feeding the sow before, during and after pregnancy, the farrowing process, caring for the sow and piglets following the birth and also weaning.
